Testimonials
I stood with a ruined Grade 2* project in my basket and had very little idea of where to begin. To be honest, I was in urgent need of total architectural support for this development and Marshall and Kendon Architects were able to guide me through all complex negotiations.
English Heritage, Bristol City Planning, Listed Building Section, Building Control, Highway Department, M&E Consultants, quotation forms as well as on-site contractors and the Client, myself, were all handled in a most efficient and very professional manner. Not only did the project come in on budget but we were awarded 3 significant construction awards as well as being nominated Best Building Conversion by Building Control South West.
To quote Mike Jenner in his book ‘100 best buildings in Bristol’ 2011: “The Lido is included here for three reasons: first for its quality as an 1850 building, for which it would perhaps merit two stars; secondly as an outstanding example of how the enthusiasm of a few active and intelligent people can overcome bureaucratic obstruction and lack of imagination, and thirdly for the sheer quality of the conversion, for which it merits four stars.”

Marshall and Kendon Architects are a pleasure to work with on any project – Small team culture and are able to translate the customer requirements in a functional yet stylish way. They coped exceptionally well with the brief and all late and continual design changes as the project evolved. Avon Fire and Rescue Service have used Marshall and Kendon on other projects and again they have taken on board our requirements and offered well designed yet practical ideas.
The design and built cost per sq m offers excellent value for money – Costs in some cases are one third of similar size projects around the UK. The main appliance bay ‘feel’ has received many compliments by visitors and staff – This included a delegation from Bristol Airport who are considering a new station on their site. The community facilities are well designed and functions independently of the station – Very well received and supported by Nailsea residents.

Marshall Kendon architects have now led me through two major works The Lido in Clifton Grade 2* and Thames Lido Grade2 and their support and leadership has been exemplary. They work sympathetically with old buildings, plan floor layouts with both imagination and finesse whilst harnessing the client’s aspirations and translate his ideas in to acceptable and legally correct solutions.
The benefit of working with experienced professionals that truly understand the interaction between an old crumbling, listed building and contemporary building regulations is paramount. Jeremy, Sam and Dan make up a small and easy approachable team that provide quality service at an agreeable price.

I love working with Sam and Dan on our Water Lilies eco self-build community project for which we have submitted the planning application. Every meeting was a joy and the competence and know-how they bring to the project is impressive. Their openness to suggestions is striking as is their ability to adapt and learn on the job and providing their expertise to develop the concept and method with us: in our case developing a good way of working with a community group. Their expertise has been an essential part of delivering a great project. Deadlines were always met and usually exceeded and the design is just beautiful. We very much hope to continue to involve Marshall & Kendon further in the project as we go through technical design and construction.
